Understanding the Hobie Sport / Revo

The 3 Check Points

Launching.jpg
  • Just remember this 3 things in this order Mirage Drive > Rudder > Wheels

Launching

  1. Secure the drive and set the paddle crank leg (just slightly before full leg extension)

  2. Release the rudder (for Hobie compass), Lock the rudder line (for Sport and Revo)

  3. Take the wheels out of the water

Landing

  1. Take the Drive out at least 10meters away from shore, then drift into shore, hope off before the kayak hits the sand.

  2. Lift the rudder up

  3. Slot the wheels under the kayak
NOTE: Put the wheels in the middle slot for the tandem kayak, if not its going to be super heavy to pull and will damage the kayak scupper hole.

What is the correct way to insert a MirageDrive?

how to insert mirage drive.jpg
  • If you do it incorrectly it is possible to damage the rear fin and or the outhaul block it attaches to. This can result in the fin separating right off it's mast. Best case scenario this will hinder pedaling performance, could result in the fin separating right off it's mast and potentially it difficult to remove the drive if the spine gets wedged into it. If you get it completely wrong you might even lose the Miragedrive should you also find a way to capsize the kayak. Therefore it is critical for beginners to take a moment to insure that this right before jumping in and pedaling away.
